PERSONAL NOTES
• Sep 2006: Acronis is now my favorite vendor for disk
management tools, now that PowerQuest has been subsumed
into Symantec.
• Most of the current 3rd party partitioning tools
require Basic disks, and do not support Dynamic Disks.
A notable exception is Paragon Hard Disk Manager,
which can convert a Dynamic Disk back to a Basic Disk.
• Partition Magic has long been my favorite utility
(even though there are free alternatives) and I've
been using it since version 2.0. One of the best
things is that it comes with BootMagic, an awesome
Boot Manager.
• Partition Magic no longer installs or works with
NT Server or 2000/XP Server. You have to obtain
the server product: Volume Manager
• Many of the free products have issues with NTFS
partitions, particularly NTFS v5.x
• Acronis makes many versatile Disk Management tools.
They are becoming my new preferred vendor for Disk
manipulation and cloning.
