One of the more annoying things about installing recent
versions of Internet Explorer is that the setup program
always wants to get the bulk of the installation files
from the Internet.

This makes it difficult to obtain IE for other machines
which may not be connected directly to the Internet, or
systems that are running a different version of Windows
than your present machine.

Besides using the IEAK (IE Administration Kit), there
are at least two ways to get around this issue:

FROM NT4 OR Win9x/ME SYSTEMS

1. Save IE6SETUP.EXE to a local folder
2. Run IE6SETUP and choose a Full/Custom install
3. Select "Advanced" and choose "Download & Save To Disk"
4. Choose "Next"
5. Select all relevant Operating Systems for your environment
6. Choose the same folder you selected in step #1

FROM ANY VERSION OF WINDOWS

1. Create a folder (e.g. "C:\IESETUP\")
2. Download the installer (from MS site) to this folder.
3. Goto START --> RUN and open a command prompt
4. Type the following command (assuming the folder in step #1):
   "C:\IESETUP\IE6SETUP.EXE" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"
(include all of the quotes shown above)
5. Select all relevant Operating Systems for your environment
6. Choose the same folder you selected in step #1

ADDING/REMOVING ACTIVE DESKTOP

To add Active Desktop to NT or Win9x, do the following:
   for NT: ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y"
   for Win9x: ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y"

PERSONAL NOTES

• If you've previously installed IE6 on the machine in
question, you need to use 2nd option to get the full
  installation again.

• The examples above were for IE6, but they worked for
  IE4 and 5 as well.

• The IEAK is the best way to deploy IE
