This primarily affects mobile users, but on occasion,
you might need to be able to configure your system to
support different network configurations. Some examples
follow:

• You use DHCP at home, but not at work
• You need to connect to multiple, untrusted domains
• You have special IP settings at different regional
  offices

Whatever the reason, there isn't an easy way to do this
with native tools in NT4. Windows 2000 provides NETSH,
while allows you to configure all manner of network
settings, and Windows XP will allow you to have one
additional/alternate network configuration.

Here are some tools that will provide this functionality:

PERSONAL NOTES

• XP's Alternate Network config allows you to setup DHCP
for one environment (i.e. Work), but rely on a specific,
static address at another location (i.e. Home)

• I prefer to configure DHCP everywhere I go.

• In 2000 and XP, you can also use NETSH to script changes
  to your network configuration.
